Brisbane Roar FC W-League
The Brisbane Roar FC W-League team, also known as the Brisbane Roar Women, represents the Brisbane Roar in the Australian Women's National football (soccer) League, the W-League.
Formation
The Westfield W-League was formed in 2008, with naming rights being occupied by Westfield, the company co-founded by Frank Lowy, who is referred to as the Godfather of Australian Football. 7 of the 8 founding teams of the Hyundai A-League were allowed teams, with an 8th team given to Canberra United FC.
Brisbane Roar (then Queensland Roar), would be coached by Welshman Jeff Hopkins, who enjoyed stints in England an abroad during his playing days. The playing roster would feature a mix of youth and veterans, including founding captain and Matilda's stalwart, Kate McShea, and up and coming Goalkeeper, Casey Dumont.
Grounds
Although Ballymore Stadium has been used predominantly as the Roar's home ground, other stadiums have also been used throughout the W-League side's tenure in the semi-processional women's league. As mentioned, Ballymore Stadium has been used as the semi-regular home ground, with other stadiums including Perry Park, Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre, Suncorp Stadium, Stockland Park and Cleveland Showgrounds
